Every Piece Salon × MIRAI HANA – Kids Job Experience #025: Hairstylist Edition
On Sunday, August 23, ten children participated in MIRAI HANA’s first-ever Hairstylist Job Experience Workshop at Every Piece Salon in Honolulu.
The workshop was led by Khoi Lieu, Owner, Master Hair Cutter, and Educator at Every Piece Salon. Every Piece Salon celebrated its 10th anniversary this month, while Khoi shared that he has been working as a hairstylist for 22 years.
Even after more than two decades in the profession, he told the children that hairstyling is still his passion because “we get to make people happy.”
✂️ Discovering the Work of a Hairstylist
Before beginning the hands-on activities, Khoi introduced the children to what it is like to work in a professional salon.
Because real clients were receiving services nearby, he asked the children to be mindful of their voices and the salon environment. It was a simple but important lesson that being a professional means not only having skills, but also being aware of the people and space around you.
Khoi also spoke about the importance of finding passion in your work and enjoying what you do.
🧴 Hair Washing Experience
Khoi first demonstrated professional shampoo techniques, and the children then worked in pairs to practice on one another.
Each child had the opportunity to experience both roles—the hairstylist and the client.
They learned how to use their fingertips gently, pay attention to pressure, communicate with their partner, and make sure the person in the chair felt comfortable.
As the children rotated through the shampoo stations, Khoi moved between the pairs, offering guidance and helping them improve their technique.
The children quickly discovered that even something as familiar as washing hair requires skill, gentleness, communication, trust, and care when working with another person.
💨 Professional Blow-Drying
Next, Khoi demonstrated the fundamentals of professional blow-drying.
The children learned how to safely control the dryer, position the airflow, and avoid keeping heat in one place for too long.
They then practiced with their partners, paying close attention not only to the technique, but also to whether their partner felt comfortable.
Through this activity, they experienced the responsibility and trust that come with working directly with a client.
💆 Scalp Massage & A Special Request
Khoi also introduced the children to scalp massage techniques, showing them how gentle pressure and fingertip movements can help make a shampoo service relaxing and enjoyable.
At the end of the workshop, the children had a special request:
They wanted to shampoo Khoi’s hair!
This time, their instructor became the client. The children enthusiastically practiced the shampoo and massage techniques they had just learned while Khoi guided them along the way.
It became one of the most memorable moments of the workshop and reinforced an important lesson: hairstyling is not only about how someone looks, but also how you make them feel.
🌟 What the Children Learned
Through this workshop, the children experienced much more than shampooing and blow-drying.
They learned that professional hairstyling requires technical skill, communication, safety, patience, responsibility, teamwork, and care for others.
They also learned about salon etiquette and the importance of respecting clients and the professional environment.
Most importantly, Khoi shared that even after 22 years as a hairstylist, he still loves what he does because it is his passion and because his work allows him to make people happy.
The workshop gave the children an opportunity not only to experience the foundational skills of a hairstylist, but also to think about what it means to find work that you enjoy and take pride in.

2026年8月23日（日）、ホノルルのEvery Piece Salonにて、10名の子どもたちがMIRAI HANA初開催となる「ヘアスタイリスト仕事体験ワークショップ」に参加しました。
今回講師を務めてくださったのは、Every Piece SalonのOwner / Master Hair Cutter / EducatorであるKhoi Lieuさん。
Every Piece Salonはこの8月で10周年を迎え、Khoiさん自身はヘアスタイリスト歴22年。
22年間この仕事を続けてきた今でも、ヘアスタイリストという仕事は自分のPassion（情熱）だと話し、その理由を「人を幸せにすることができる仕事だから」と子どもたちに伝えてくれました。
✂️ ヘアスタイリストの仕事を知る
実技を始める前に、Khoiさんからプロのサロンで働くとはどういうことなのかを教えてもらいました。
この日はサロン内で実際のお客様も施術を受けていたため、まず子どもたちに伝えられたのは、声の大きさや周囲への配慮。
プロとして働くためには、技術だけではなく、お客様や周囲の環境を意識することも大切だと学びました。
また、将来仕事を選ぶときには、自分がすることにPassionを持つことの大切さも教えてくれました。
🧴 シャンプー体験
最初の実技は、プロのシャンプー体験です。
まずKhoiさんがお手本を見せ、その後、子どもたちはペアになってお互いの髪をシャンプーしました。
一人が「ヘアスタイリスト役」、もう一人が「お客様役」となり、途中で交代しながら両方の立場を体験。
指先を優しく使うこと、力加減に気をつけること、相手に声をかけること、そして心地よく過ごせているかを確認することなどを学びました。
Khoiさんも子どもたちの間を回りながら、一人ひとりに声をかけてサポート。
普段何気なく見ているシャンプーにも、技術、優しさ、コミュニケーション、信頼、そして相手への気配りが必要であることを体験しました。
💨 プロのブロードライに挑戦
続いて、ブロードライの基本技術を学びました。
Khoiさんがお手本を見せながら、ドライヤーの持ち方や風の当て方、同じ場所に熱を当て続けないことなど、安全にブローするためのポイントを説明。
その後は再びペアになり、実際に相手の髪を乾かしました。
技術だけでなく、相手が熱くないか、心地よく過ごせているかを確認しながら行うことで、ヘアスタイリストの仕事に必要な責任感や信頼も学びました。
💆 頭皮マッサージ ＆ 子どもたちからの特別リクエスト
シャンプー体験では、頭皮マッサージについても学びました。
Khoiさんから、指先を使って優しくマッサージする方法を教えてもらった後、ワークショップの最後には子どもたちから、
「Khoiさんの髪も洗ってみたい！」
という特別なリクエストが！
今度はKhoiさんがお客様役になり、子どもたちが先ほど学んだシャンプーとマッサージを実践しました。
笑顔いっぱいの楽しい時間となると同時に、ヘアスタイリストの仕事は見た目を整えるだけではなく、お客様にどのように心地よく感じてもらうかも大切だと改めて学ぶ機会となりました。
🌟 子どもたちが学んだこと
今回のワークショップを通して、子どもたちはヘアスタイリストの仕事には、技術、コミュニケーション、安全への配慮、忍耐力、責任感、チームワーク、そして相手を思いやる気持ちが必要であることを学びました。
また、本物のサロンだからこそ、周囲のお客様への配慮や、プロとして働く空間でのマナーについても体験することができました。
そして何より、22年間この仕事を続けてきたKhoiさんから、自分の仕事にPassionを持つこと、人を幸せにできる仕事を大切にすることを直接学ぶ、貴重な機会となりました。
長年培ってきた技術だけでなく、仕事への想いやPassionまで子どもたちに伝えてくださったKhoiさん、Rieさん、Isabelleさん、そしてEvery Piece Salonの皆さまに心より感謝いたします。
