MIRAI HANA 第1回ケイキマーケット報告（日本語は英語の下にあります）
On Sunday, August 10th, we hosted our very first Keiki Market — Hawai‘i’s kids-only flea market, where children took charge as both sellers and buyers.
A total of 15 sellers and 35 buyers participated, ranging from 4 to 11 years old, creating a lively and multicultural marketplace full of learning, creativity, and fun.
This unique event allowed children not only to sell and shop on their own, but also to learn about money management, practice math skills, and experience real-world transactions — all in a safe, supportive environment.
🌈 Hawai‘i’s First Kids-Only Flea Market
At this special event, children handled every step of the transactions by themselves — from setting prices to greeting customers, making change, and recording sales.
Booth sellers: Ages 7–11 (Grades 2–6)
Shoppers: Ages 4–11
Up to 2 children per booth (siblings or friends welcome)
If one participant meets the age requirement, the second child may be a preschooler
Items for sale included toys, books, stationery, and handmade accessories — all priced at $5 or less.
💡 More Than Just Buying and Selling — A Lesson in Money
The Keiki Market was not just about selling things; it was also a hands-on learning experience about money.
Preparing a set amount of change in advance
Recording each sold item and its price
At the end, calculating the day’s sales:
(Total sales) − (Prepared change) = profitRecording their own spending when shopping at other booths
Calculating the final amount after expenses
Through this process, the children practiced math skills, record keeping, and financial awareness in a fun and natural way.

Usually, parents help — but this time, the kids did everything themselves. They were nervous at first… but they realized, “I can do it!”

👨👩👧 Voices of the Parents
From nervous to smiles – At first, my child was nervous and had trouble communicating with customers. By the end, they had gained confidence and were having fun selling. Thank you for this opportunity — it was a truly valuable experience.
From courage to confidence – This was my child’s first time shopping alone. At first, they hesitated, but little by little they gained the courage to shop. By the end, they were brimming with confidence. I hope this event will continue!
The joy and challenge of running a shop – My child experienced both the fun and the difficulty of managing a shop entirely on their own. From practice at home to the real event, it was a great parent-child experience. The atmosphere was lively and full of laughter. We’d love to join again.
🎯 Learning and Next Steps
Even in this short trial session, children experienced negotiation, selling, calculating, recording, and inventory management.
Feedback included requests for “longer event time” and “opportunities to make products in advance”.
The Keiki Market will continue to provide real-world learning experiences and money skills to children in Hawai‘i — in a fun, multicultural, and supportive environment.
8月10日（日）、ハワイ初となる「こどもだけ」のフリーマーケット、ケイキマーケットを初開催しました。
今回は 15名の出店者 と 35名の買い物客（対象年齢4〜11歳）が参加し、学び・創造・交流が詰まった、活気ある多文化マーケットとなりました。
このイベントは、こどもたちが自分たちだけで販売や買い物を行いながら、お金の管理や計算のスキルを学び、リアルな取引を体験できる 安全でサポートのある環境を提供するものです。
🌈 ハワイ初！こどもだけのフリーマーケット
ケイキマーケットでは、こどもたちが 値段を決める、呼び込みをする、おつりを渡す、売上を記録する といった全ての流れを自分たちで行いました。
出店対象年齢：7〜11歳（小学2〜6年）
買い物対象年齢：4〜11歳
1ブースは2名まで（兄弟・友だち同士OK）
1名が対象年齢であれば、もう1名は未就学児でも参加可
販売されたのは、おもちゃ・本・文房具・手作りアクセサリーなど。価格はすべて5ドル以下に設定しました。
💡 「売って終わり」じゃない、お金の学び
ケイキマーケットは、ただ物を売って終わる体験ではありません。
お金の流れを理解し、数字を扱う練習も同時に行いました。

最後に「売上合計 − おつりの元金」で当日の売上を計算
他のブースで買い物をした金額も記録
最終的な利益（または赤字）を算出
これにより、こどもたちは 計算力・記録力・数字感覚 を楽しく自然に身につけることができました。

いつもはお母さんやお父さんがサポートしてくれるけど、この日は自分たちだけで挑戦！最初は緊張…でもやってみたら「できた！」
計算がしやすいように $1均一 など、工夫されたお店づくり
顔のシール体験など、アイディアあふれるアクティビティの出店も登場
学校や習い事の友だちと再会！学校の垣根を越えた新しい出会いも

「最初は緊張、最後は笑顔」
初めての経験で最初は緊張し、お客様とのコミュニケーションがうまくできない様子でしたが、最後は慣れて楽しそうに販売していました。とても貴重な経験をありがとうございました。「勇気を出して、自信に」
初めて一人で買い物を経験。最初はなかなか買えませんでしたが、少しずつ勇気を出し、最後には自信に満ちた表情になっていました。ぜひ継続してほしいです。「お店を切り盛りする楽しさと難しさ」
子どもだけでお店を切り盛りする楽しさと難しさを実感。事前練習から当日の緊張感、そして笑顔いっぱいの時間を過ごせました。次回も参加したいです。
🎯 学びとこれから
今回のトライアル開催では、短時間ながらも多くのこどもたちが 交渉・販売・計算・記録・在庫管理 を体験しました。
「もっと時間を長くしてほしい」「商品を作って持ってきたい」という声もあり、今後は規模や回数を拡大していく予定です。
ケイキマーケットは、これからも ハワイのこどもたちに“リアルな社会体験”と“お金の学び”を届ける場 として続いていきます。
