Reiko Rogers × MIRAI HANA – Kids Job Experience #001: Radio DJ Edition
MIRAI HANA 第一回こども仕事体験ワークショップ報告「こどもラジオDJ」（日本語は英語の下にあります）
On Sunday, August 3rd, we hosted our very first MIRAI HANA workshop: Junior Radio DJ Experience, featuring special guest Reiko Rogers — founder of Studio Rim Hawaii and a seasoned radio personality.
The workshop took place at Studio Rim Hawaii, a live radio station beautifully located on the 3rd floor of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa, right in front of the hotel pool. Reiko-san, who came to Hawaii in 2000, has built this studio as a hub for cross-cultural media, and on this day, it became a stage for 10 kids (ages 6–13) to become radio DJs for the first time.
The children came from different schools, backgrounds, and even countries — but during this two-hour session, they connected through shared experiences and made new friends.
Some of the kids had heard the radio before, while others had never even seen a radio mic. So, the workshop began with an introduction to radio and the role of a DJ — not just someone who talks, but someone who brings their unique personality and asks great questions.
After learning the basics, the kids practiced introducing themselves in a way that highlights their own personality. Reiko-san offered feedback: “Start with a smile,” “Make eye contact,” and “Always wrap up with a strong closing.” These tips weren't just about DJing — they were life lessons in communication and confidence.
Then came the main challenge: recording a real radio segment! Paired up in teams, the kids chose their own topics — from Hawaii and favorite animals to food and fun facts — and worked together to script and record their dialogue on air. It was incredible to see how they brought their voices to life in such a short time.
Some pairs asked great questions, others ended their show with a perfect sign-off, and some included meaningful ideas that reflected their hearts. Each duo showed creativity, teamwork, and courage. Despite minimal prep time, every child stepped up, spoke clearly, and performed like a true radio personality.
As a reward for their efforts, the young DJs received a gift from Studio Rim and something even more special — new friendships and a boost of confidence. Each participant will also receive their recording and event photos from MIRAI HANA.
In their reflections, many kids said they were nervous or even a little scared at first, but they also shared comments like:
“It was fun!”
“I made a new friend!”
“I want to practice more English!”
We could see a bright future shining in each child's words. Their potential is truly limitless. At MIRAI HANA, we believe in helping kids explore who they are and how they can connect with people all over the world. We hope this experience gave them a step forward in building that global communication spirit.

Being able to share your thoughts or introduce something in front of others is not only important at work, but also in our everyday lives. I believe this is a special ability and responsibility given to us as humans. (I think I mentioned, "Even ants can’t do this!" during the workshop.)
Also, the words you speak out loud flow into the world under your own responsibility. That’s why you should always be careful not to say things that aren’t true as if they are, or to speak badly about others.
No matter how small or big the world may be, I believe that for peace to exist, it’s essential to have open conversations, to use our words, and to talk things through.
8月3日（日）、Studio Rim Hawaii創設者レイコ・ロジャースさんを講師としてお招きし、こども10人がラジオDJ体験をしました。
ワイキキ中心地にあるハイアット・リージェンシー・ワイキキ・ビーチ・リゾート＆スパの３階、そしてホテルのプールの正面という絶好のロケーションにあるラジオ局「Studio Rim Hawaii」。
講師のレイコ・ロジャースさんが2000年にハワイに来て、この場所に創設した「Studio Rim Hawaii」のライブスタジオで、「こどもラジオDJ」（見習い）が実際にこのスタジオでマイクの前で話すというスリリングなおしごと体験をしました。こどもDJの年齢は6歳から13歳と幅広く、出身国や学校が異なるこども達が２時間の交流を楽しみ、新しいお友達を作りました。
車の中でラジオを聞いたことがあるこどもDJもいましたが、全くラジオを聞いたことがないこどもDJもいたことから、まずはラジオの紹介から始まり、DJは単に話すだけではなく、パーソナリティー（個性）を出すこと、そしていつも質問を考えることが必要だと学びました。
その後、自分のパーソナリティーがわかるように工夫して自己紹介をする練習をし、講師のレイコ・ロジャースさんからフィードバックやアドバイスをいただきました。最初の5秒はスマイルで！、話す時は聞くひとを見る、最後は締めくくりが必要と、日常生活でも応用できる「伝える力」のコツを学びました。
最後は、いよいよラジオ番組制作！こどもDJがペアでマイクの前で選んだお題について話す体験をしました。ハワイ、好きな動物、好きな食べ物など、こどもDJは二人でアイデアを出しながら話し合い、それをマイクの前で話して収録するという、神技をこなしました。質問をたくさんしたペア、最後にかっこいい締めくくりをしたペア、こどもの心に響く内容を入れたペアと、レイコ・ロジャースさんから学んだことをすぐに実行し、また、それぞれの個性がよく見えるお話でした。
準備時間がとても短かったにもかかわらず、こどもDJは堂々とマイクの前で話し、それぞれ準備した内容を工夫をしながらラジオ番組としてまとめることができました。チームワーク、創造力、責任力、すべて合格です！
大人でも難しいタスクを見事にこなしたこどもDJは「がんばった証」、Studio Rimからのお土産、そして「新しいお友達」を得ることができました。番組収録データと写真は、MIRAI HANAから送付されます。
最後の感想では、「マイクの前で話すのは緊張した」、「少し怖かった」の声もありましたが、「楽しかった」、「会ったばかりの子と知り合いになることができた」、「英語をもっと練習したい」と、前向きなこどもDJのコメントに、こどもたちの明るい将来が見えました。
こどもの潜在能力は無限大。
明日から少しでも自信を持って自分のパーソナリティーを創って、世界中のだれとでもコミュニケーションがとれる素敵なグローバル人材になってくれることを心より望んでいます。

人の前で、自分の思うことや何かを紹介することは、仕事だけでなく、日常社会の中でとても大切なことです。
人に与えれた能力と責任だと思います。（確か、ありにはできないね！と話したと思います）
また、実際、口から発する言葉は、自分の責任の元にフローしていきますので、
事実と違うことを真実のように話したり、誰かの陰口を言うことは十分に注意してください。
小さい世界でも、大きな世界でも、世界が平和になるためには、とことん対話、言葉を発して話し合うことが重要だと思っています。
