MIRAI HANA Autumn HANA FEST!
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, MIRAI HANA hosted Autumn HANA FEST! at BŪHO Cocina y Cantina in Waikīkī!
This special community event brought together approximately 260 attendees, including 136 children, for a day filled with hands-on learning, creativity, independence, and Halloween fun!
Compared with our spring event, we had more space available throughout the venue, allowing families to move around comfortably, enjoy activities, and relax together.
This year's event featured Keiki Market #04, Junior Bartender by BŪHO, Junior Pastry Chef by cakeM, Keychain Making by My Treehouse Club, Badge Making by MIRAI HANA, Family Photo by La-vie Factory, and a Halloween Costume Parade!
🛍️ Keiki Market #04 – A Marketplace Run by Kids!
Our fourth Keiki Market was once again the heart of HANA FEST!
Children managed their own booths, welcomed customers, handled cash, calculated change, made shopping decisions, and experienced the excitement and responsibility of buying and selling with real money.
One young seller achieved an impressive $65 in sales during a single half-day market session!
We were especially impressed by the effort and creativity of our young sellers. Some participated in both morning and afternoon sessions, while others carefully selected products they thought customers would love.
One family even shared that they had purchased items specifically for their child's market experience. Their goal wasn't necessarily to make a profit, but to give their child the opportunity to experience selling independently for the first time.
This perfectly reflects what MIRAI HANA hopes to achieve.
We want children to handle real money, practice calculations, make their own decisions, and discover the value of money through firsthand experience.
Why Is Keiki Market Kids-Only?
When we first launched Keiki Market, many families were surprised by our unique approach.
Parents can help with setup and cleanup, but during the market, children run the booths and shop independently, while adults watch from a designated viewing area.
Having parents nearby may make things easier, but we believe children gain confidence by figuring things out on their own.
That's why Keiki Market is designed for shoppers ages 4–11 and sellers ages 7–11, with age guidelines that reflect the skills children are beginning to develop.
Four markets later, we're happy to see more families understanding and embracing this concept.
Some families who joined as shoppers for the first time even told us their children would like to become sellers at the next Keiki Market!
At the end of each session, our young sellers also completed their Money Sheets, reflecting on their sales, purchases, and earnings.
Every calculation, conversation, and small challenge was part of the learning experience.
🍹 Junior Bartender – BŪHO Cocina y Cantina
Our Junior Bartender Mini Job Workshop gave children a behind-the-scenes introduction to drink preparation in a real restaurant setting.
With guidance from the BŪHO team, participants created their own non-alcoholic drinks while learning about preparation, presentation, and hospitality.
It was a wonderful opportunity to experience a small part of what professionals do every day!
🍓 Junior Pastry Chef – cakeM
We were delighted to welcome cakeM back to MIRAI HANA!
Children enjoyed a hands-on Halloween Mini Parfait Making experience, including learning cream-piping techniques from a professional pastry chef and adding their own creative touches.
Each child could create a special sweet treat to take home.
🔑 Keychain Making – My Treehouse Club
Joining HANA FEST! for the first time, My Treehouse Club brought a fun and colorful keychain-making activity!
Children selected materials and created their own personalized keychains, combining creativity with the excitement of making something they could use and treasure afterward.
🎨 Badge Making – MIRAI HANA
MIRAI HANA also introduced a new Badge Making activity!
Children drew their favorite pictures and Halloween designs, which were then transformed into real badges.
Seeing their own artwork become something they could wear or take home brought plenty of smiles!
🎃 Costume Parade – Halloween Fun!
Our Costume Parade added an extra touch of Halloween magic!
Children arrived in adorable, creative costumes and proudly showed them off as they paraded through the venue.
With music provided by BŪHO and the support of our volunteers, it became a cheerful moment for families to enjoy together.
📸 Family Photo & Event Photography – La-vie Factory
A huge thank you to La-vie Factory for joining HANA FEST! once again!
In addition to offering family photo sessions, their team captured the children's expressions and memorable moments throughout the event.
We hope you'll enjoy looking through the photographs and seeing the excitement, concentration, and confidence on the children's faces.
And stay tuned for our event video by LILIAKALA! 🎥
🌺 Learning, Growing, and Listening
Based on 16 responses to our post-event parent survey:
93.8% reported being satisfied or very satisfied.
87.5% said they would definitely or probably like to participate again.
Families shared that their children enjoyed making badges and keychains, interacting with local children, learning to count money, and experiencing independent shopping.
One parent shared that their child learned the importance of hard work and patience. Another appreciated the opportunity for their children to connect with local kids.
We also received helpful feedback about activity pricing, variety, age ranges, and duration.
Some families mentioned that cash-only payments for other activities were inconvenient.
Cash is an essential part of Keiki Market because it allows children to handle real money, calculate change, and understand its value through firsthand experience. We also recognize that convenient payment options matter for other activities, and we'll take this feedback into consideration when planning future events.
We also made improvements based on feedback from our previous event, including expanding the family rest areas and introducing additional activities.
Each HANA FEST! is an opportunity for us to learn and improve, too!
💛 What HANA FEST! Means to Us
Through our Kids Job Experience Workshops, MIRAI HANA introduces children to real jobs and the people behind them.
HANA FEST! brings that same philosophy into a community setting, where children can experience independence, creativity, and decision-making in their own ways.
Sometimes learning happens when a child successfully gives change.
Sometimes it happens when something doesn't sell as expected.
Sometimes it's the courage to speak to a customer, make a purchase without a parent, or try an unfamiliar activity.
We believe these small real-world experiences help children grow in confidence and independence.
We were especially happy to hear that some children who joined as shoppers this time are already excited to become sellers at our next Keiki Market.
We can't wait to see what they'll try next!
Thank you to every child who gave something new a try, and to every parent who trusted their child to take that step!
🙏 Special Thanks

HANA FEST!
MIRAI HANA
Keiki Market
Keiki Market
🍹 Junior Bartender – BŪHO
🍓 Junior Pastry Chef – cakeM
🔑 Keychain Making – My Treehouse Club
🎨 Badge Making – MIRAI HANA
MIRAI HANA
🎃 Costume Parade
📸 Family Photo – La-vie Factory
Keiki Market
💛 MIRAI HANA
MIRAI HANA
HANA FEST!
